Beard work that makes the whole cut look right.

A great haircut with a scraggly beard looks half-finished. A great haircut with a sharp beard looks intentional. We take the beard as seriously as the cut on top.

Beard Trim and Lineup at JoCo Barber Company, Garner NC.

What we do

Three kinds of beard work.

Depending on what you are going for, beard work at JoCo lands in one of three places:

  • Beard trim: length knocked down, shape maintained, cheeks and neckline cleaned. Quick and clean.
  • Beard sculpt: more intentional shaping. We use scissors and trimmer to give the beard actual geometry: sharp corners at the cheek, a defined jawline, a clean neck.
  • Lineup: edges only. Sharp corners on the hairline, temples, and around the ears. Sometimes with the razor for the sharpest edge.

Most guys want some combination of these when they come in for a haircut.

Beard shape

The neckline is where beards go wrong.

Nine times out of ten, a home-trimmed beard looks off because of the neckline. Too high and it looks small. Too low and it merges with the neck. Following the natural jaw is what makes a beard look intentional.

We set the neckline where the underside of your jaw meets your neck, then feather it so there is no hard line. That is the trick. That is what people notice without knowing why.

Cheek line

Sharp or natural, your call.

The cheek line above the beard is the other place beards get read as sharp or shaggy. Some guys want a hard clean line. Some want it to look natural, like it just grew that way.

Tell us which you want, or ask us what would look right for your face. Either answer is fine.

Questions we get

Frequently asked.

How much is a beard trim?

Set at the chair based on what the trim includes. Cash only in the shop, card only at booking.

Do you trim beards without a haircut?

Yes. Beard-only appointments are welcome as walk-ins or booked ahead. Faster in and out.

Can you shape a beard I am growing out?

Yes. Growing a beard out does not mean not trimming it. In fact, keeping the neckline and cheeks tidy while it grows makes the final beard look much better.

Do you use a straight razor on beards?

Yes, if you want a sharp edge. Not required. Some guys prefer just trimmer work.

Should I come in with a clean beard?

Doesn't matter. We work with whatever shape you bring in. If you can wash it beforehand it is easier to see the true length, but not required.
